An astronaut in a low earth orbit can easily see the change of vegetation or the lack of it on the earth. The earth can be divided into regions having distinctive plants and animal communites. These different regions are known as biomes.
There are eight major biomes on land surface. They are: (1) tropical rain forest, (2) grass lands, (3) temperate deciduous forest, (4) northern coniferous forest, (5) woodland, (6) savanas, (7) desert and (8) tundra. The hydrosphere of our planet has different biomes such as marine biomes and fresh water biomes.
