Why the thorns of Bougainvillea cannot be easily detached whereas the prickles of Rosa can be easily pulled off?

Thorns of Bougainvillea are deep-seated outgrowths and are modified stem structures possessing vascular cylinder surrounded by bark whereas prickles of Rosa are superficial epidermal outgrowths of stem or leaves lacking any vascular cylinder hence are easily detachable.
