Under what circumstances was the poet's mother string by the scorpion?

It was raining heavily that night. The scorpion was forced by the incessant rain to crawl underneath a sack of rice in the narrator's hut. Out of fear of being in an alien environment, it stung the mother of the narrator and then it again went out into the rainy night.
