Find the value of k for which the quadratic equation kx(k – 2) + 6 = 0 has two equal roots.

Solution:

Given equation, kx(k – 2) + 6 = 0

                           kx² - 2kx + 6=0​​

Here, a = k, b = -2k, c = 6

Now, b² - 4ac = 0

(-2k)² - 4.k.6=0

4k² - 24=0

4k(k - 6)=0

4k=0, k - 6=0

k=0,   k=6

The value of k so that the equation kx(k – 2) + 6 = 0 has equal roots is 6.
